Our Special Moment Contest WINNERS

CONGRATULATIONS DARBY AND JONATHAN!

We had several entries into our contest and our judges picked a winner. Darby and Jonathan will be receiving a wonderful photography package from us along with all the bells and whistles that you would like for your wedding day, along with a bridal bouquet from Calera Quality Florist! They will be exchanging vows on June 26, 2010. Here is their story!

Just a little about us:

Jonathan is the true cowboy, farmer, and southern gentleman. He always opens the door for me and constantly reminds me of how much he cares for me. He is from Selma, Alabama, where he also has a farm. He will graduate from the University of Montevallo in May 2010.

I would describe myself as a typical southern belle. I grew up in Childersburg, Alabama and graduated from the University of Montevallo in 2006. I will also receive my Master’s in Education from UM this August. I teach 6th grade at Homewood Middle School, where I also coach 7th grade cheerleaders.

How we met (2007):

Jonathan and I were both at a party at one of my sorority sister’s houses. His fraternity and my sorority occasionally get together for events. All of the girls had just gotten back from a Japanese restaurant celebrating one of our friend’s birthdays. We were extremely overdressed- as most sorority girls are. J I noticed Jonathan, the shy southern “cowboy” in his blue jeans and boots, sitting on the couch by himself. He and I were the only two people in the house not drinking, so I figured we could hang out. I sat down beside him and began talking to him. We had the best conversation! I told him I needed to go home and get in bed because I was trying out a new church in the morning. He told me that his dad happened to be a preacher down the road, and then he invited me to church with him. I thought he was just being nice by inviting me, but a few weeks later he did end up taking me to church with him. During our long conversation that first night, he and I both realized that we had a great deal in common. We have been together for two years now. Recently, we just joined a new church together where we will also be married.

The Proposal (May 30, 2009):

Jonathan was very close to his grandparents, who unfortunately passed away before I came into his life. They lived in a cute little house in Mountain Brook, Alabama. The family still owns the house and is currently trying to fix it up. Jonathan had been spraying the weeds and working on the yard all day one Saturday. He asked me if I wanted to go out to eat that night. We ended up trying a new restaurant and really liked it. After we ate, he said he wanted to go to the Mountain Brook house to check on the yard and see if it looked okay. When we got there, I had to go inside to the ladies’ room. As I was coming out of the house he was coming in with a ring box in his hand. I saw the box and immediately my mouth fell open. Apparently, I surprised him, as well, because his eyes got pretty big. He asked me to marry him right there in his grandparents’ house and I, of course, said, “YES!”

I am currently moving in to the Mountain Brook house and he will join me there when we get married next year. It is truly a special place to us.
